John A. Masterson, a partner in Rothgerber Johnson & Lyon's (effective September 1, 2013, Lewis and Roca LLP) Casper, WY, office, has been appointed to the Wyoming Board of Law Examiners, effective December 31, 2012. He will serve a term of four years.
Masterson's practice focuses on the areas of oil and gas law, litigation, governmental relations, as well as arbitration and mediation. After starting in private practice, he became Assistant District Attorney in Casper, then an Assistant United States attorney for Wyoming. In 2003, Mr. Masterson became legal counsel and federal/state relations coordinator within the Wyoming Governor's Office, served as Interim Director of the Governor's Planning Office, and was the Governor's representative for state, regional, and national organizations. In 2012, Mr. Masterson served as the Legislative Liaison to Wyoming Governor Matt Mead.
Masterson is a member of the American and Wyoming Bar Associations, and has recently been appointed to the Wyoming Bar's Board of Law Examiners. He is Vice President of the Wyoming Medical Center Board, Board President for the Troopers Foundation and the Masterson Family Foundation, and Treasurer of the Tate Foundation. Mr. Masterson serves on the Boards of the Natrona County Library Foundation, the Natrona County Court Appointed Special Advocate Board (CASA), and Drum Corps International. He is also a member of Rotary International and the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States. Mr. Masterson holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law, and a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts.
