Richard K. "Dick" Clark Awarded Japan's 2012 Foreign Minister's Commendation Award

The law firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP (effective September 1, 2013, Lewis and Roca LLP) is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan awarded a Foreign Minister's Commendation to partner Richard K. "Dick" Clark earlier this month for his outstanding contributions to promoting mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and the United States.

Mr. Clark played a primary role in developing the Japan America Society of Colorado (JASC) and made great contributions to the promotion of the Japan-U.S. relationship over the past 20 years. When the Emperor and Empress of Japan visited Colorado in 1994, Mr. Clark, then-president of the JASC, was integral to the success of their visit. He is dedicated to the development of expanded economic relations between Japan and Colorado, including participating as a legal adviser to more than 50 Japanese companies operating or expanding business in Colorado. He and the firm have served as legal counsel to the Japanese Consulate in the Rocky Mountain Region since the Consulate was created. For two decades Mr. Clark assisted Denver, Colorado, and Denver International Airport in establishing the non-stop flight to Tokyo. In 2011, Governor John Hickenlooper, as part of the Governor's Trade and Tourism Ambassador Program, appointed Mr. Clark Ambassador from Colorado to Japan.

Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries. Consul General Ikuhiko Ono will present the commendation on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan at a ceremony in Denver in August 2012.

Mr. Clark has more than 30 years of experience as an international business lawyer and trial lawyer, emphasizing several areas including international business, real estate, construction, and corporate law and complex litigation. He offers legal advice to public companies and small and large private companies, both domestic and foreign. Currently he serves as Director of the World Trade Organization.
