Bobbie CollinsALBUQUERQUE – Bobbie J. Collins, an attorney with Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP in New Mexico, has earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation through the University of Denver Sturm College of Law’s Graduate Tax Program.

Real property transactions, including tax consequences of commercial leases and reverse Section 1031 like-kind exchanges, were a focus of Collins’ studies and interests. The program is a vigorous 45 credit-hour interdisciplinary curriculum for attorneys and CPAs ranked by The National Jurist as one of the top programs in the United States.

Collins’ tax practice includes providing general advice and litigation representation of individuals, business entities, and tax exempt organizations in local, state, and federal taxation matters, including audits and protests. She also maintains commercial litigation and real estate practices.

“Tax law is complicated; both transaction and litigation matters for individuals and businesses can have unforeseen tax consequences,” said Collins. “While Continuing Legal Education is important, formal education as an attorney is invaluable where identifying issues in financial and corporate matters necessitates more than just a broad understanding of the law. Being able to identify nuanced tax issues throughout my practice makes me better able to advise my clients whether I’m analyzing claimed damages in complex litigation or advising on multi-million dollar property transactions.”

Collins is currently serving a two year term as chair of the New Mexico State Bar Taxation Section. She will become a director in the New Mexico Women’s Bar Association in January 2017, and is a member of the New Mexico chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW).

Collins earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver in 2010, and a Bachelor of the Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2007. She is licensed to practice law in Colorado and New Mexico, and maintains an Associate Real Estate Broker’s license in New Mexico.
