Hiring Criteria

We are interested in talking to candidates who would like to come to Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie immediately after law school graduation or judicial clerkships, as well as those seeking to join the firm laterally. We recruit candidates with a wide diversity of backgrounds, but with a common trait: we look for individuals with a history of outstanding personal and academic achievement – including technical background and expertise where applicable, law school records, law review, moot court, or comparable extracurricular activities – previous work experience and a commitment to practicing law at the highest levels. We typically hire candidates at the top of their class with outstanding academic credentials and excellent writing skills. We also look for diversity, creativity, leadership, character, good judgment, and ties to the local community.

2016 NALP Form

1L Hiring

Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie hosts summer programs in its Denver, Los Angeles, and Phoenix offices. Although the firm primarily hires second-year law students for our summer programs, on a case-by-case basis we may include a very limited number of first-year law school students with superb academic, leadership, and professional qualifications. Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie provides first-year and second-year law students identical summer experiences (work assignments, salary, and social events). Eligible first-year law students who spend their summer with us receive offers to return for part of their second summer.

We review our 1L hiring needs in December to determine if we will have any positions available in our summer program, and we generally consider 1L applications from December to February 28. Interested law students should submit their resumes, writing samples, and first-semester law school transcripts (transcripts may be submitted separately from resume if not yet available). Please be sure to indicate whether you are interested in our Denver, Los Angeles, or Phoenix summer program.

Interview Process

Law firms differ not just in their practices, but also in how it feels to work in them. From the outside, though, it’s often hard to grasp the differences. When you interview with us, we arrange for you to meet several lawyers from diverse practice areas and experience levels. We encourage you to get to know the firm by talking with these and other Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie lawyers about their experiences. You will also meet with one or more members of our Recruiting Committee.

Write-In Candidates

If you are considering writing to us regarding an associate or summer associate position, please apply online and include your cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample. Please be sure to indicate in your cover letter whether you are interested in our Denver, Los Angeles, or Phoenix summer program.

Meet Us on Campus

Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie hosts summer programs in its Denver, Los Angeles, and Phoenix offices. We will post our 2017 on-campus interview dates and locations as they become available.

If we interview at your law school, please submit the required application materials to your career placement office. We ask that you provide a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.

We look forward to meeting you!

Other Schools

We strongly encourage qualified law students at campuses that we are unable to visit to apply online and include a cover letter, resume, transcripts, and writing samples.

Many of our lawyers, including some of our partners, came from law schools other than those we traditionally visit on campus. Use the search feature at the link below to locate our attorneys by name, law school, office, or judicial clerkship.

Pre-Screen Interviews

During your preliminary interview, we want to learn about you, your background and experience, what practice areas you might be interested in, what ties you might have to our communities, and why you are interested in Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie. We conduct substantive pre-screen interviews and whether you are a write-in candidate or meet us during on-campus interviews, you should be prepared to discuss items on your resume as well as your writing sample. The Chair of the Recruiting Committee makes callback decisions as quickly as possible after the preliminary interview. We do not reimburse candidates for expenses incurred for pre-screen interviews.

Call-back Interviews

After you have been invited for a callback or full round of interviews, we will schedule a mutually convenient date and time for you to visit our office. Callback interviews consist of a half-day visit, either morning or afternoon, during which you will meet with four to six of our lawyers. Although we do not make summer associate offers for specific practice areas, we do like to know your preliminary interests so we can arrange for you to meet one or two lawyers from those practice areas.

Travel Reimbursement

Candidates invited for a full round of interviews are reimbursed for reasonable travel-related expenses to and from our offices. Upon your arrival at the office, you will receive an interview packet containing a travel reimbursement form. Please list your travel-related expenses, indicate whether a host firm is coordinating your expenses or whether you should be reimbursed directly, and be sure to provide all receipts.
