Sami I. Schilly is an Associate in Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie’s Intellectual Property practice group.

Sami’s broad practice includes patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution and litigation. She has represented clients before the USPTO, PTAB, including Inter Partes Review proceedings, TTAB, district courts, and Federal Circuit. She also has extensive experience in internet-based IP matters, including Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedowns and enforcement and Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) procedures and domain name portfolio management.

Sami served as second chair in a trade dress litigation relating to product configurations, representing defendants, and has significant experience in counseling clients regarding trade dress and design patent considerations in product design. Following a jury trial, the jury found the asserted registered and unregistered trade dress in one of the plaintiff’s flagship designs to be invalid and thus defendants were incapable of infringement.

Sami is actively involved in the Glendale Bar Association, and has served as a Board member since 2015.

Prior to attending law school, Sami worked as a design engineer for Chevron, providing plant support for multiple refinery units, including the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit and the Coking Unit where she provided lead mechanical engineering support during multiple partial shutdowns. While attending the UCLA School of Law, Sami was a founding board member of the Law Women of UCLA student organization and volunteered with the Veterans Legal Clinic.

Sami served as a summer Judicial Extern for the Hon. Richard D. Fybel, California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Third Division, in 2012. She also served as a summer associate with Christie Parker & Hale LLP in 2013. She earned her B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA.
