Terry is co-managing partner of the Silicon Valley office.  Terry is a trial lawyer and represents clients in intellectual property, data protection and cybersecurity, and other complex commercial litigation related to high technology.  

Terry has significant experience managing major complex patent litigation, including pre-litigation investigation, budgeting, managing large-scale discovery, taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, and managing and participating in all phases of trial, including opening and closing statements and preparing and taking witnesses on direct and cross-examination.

Terry’s trial experience includes multiple trials before the federal district courts, hearings before the International Trade Commission, and arbitrations before the International Center for Dispute Resolution, American Arbitration Association and JAMS.  He has been on-brief before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, and has participated in negotiations with the United States Attorney, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Securities and Exchange Commission.  

Terry also writes and lectures on managing complex litigation, including management of electronic discovery. Terry is a certified CIPP/US by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

  • U.S. District Court jury trial asserting patent infringement and an injunction involving monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of high cholesterol
  • U.S. District Court jury trial of patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute involving electronic gaming machines
  • U.S. District Court bench trial defending claims of inequitable conduct on U.S. Patent Office
  • U.S. District Court case defending against allegations of patent infringement for a prominent online video-conferencing company.  Won case on summary judgment (finding of noninfringement and invalidity) 
  • International Trade Commission hearing representing major semiconductor company in patent infringement dispute involving semiconductor packaging technology
  • U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, on behalf of Respondents, a prominent online video-conferencing company. Obtained affirmance of lower-court finding of noninfringement and invalidity
  • International Arbitration of patent license dispute concerning electronic gaming machines;
  • Arbitration before the American Arbitration Association of commercial dispute involving claims of breach of contract, battery and defamation
  • Arbitration before JAMS of commercial dispute involving breach of contract and dissolution of partnership
  • FBI and U.S. Attorney investigation representing individual in trade secret dispute under the Economic Espionage Act involving customer lists 
  • Pro bono cases include representing minority and female entrepreneurs in intellectual property protection matters; representing indigent clients in guardianship proceedings before the San Mateo County Probate Court; and representing accused in misdemeanor criminal case
